What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a hands-on therapy based on Chinese and Japanese medicine. It works in a similar way to acupuncture but uses touch instead of needles. Treatment takes place on a body cushion on the floor, and the client, who is clothed, will be treated using various techniques, including pressure, stretches, joint rotations and rocking. There is no fixed routine, as the treatment is appropriate to the client’s needs at that time. Clients often claim that they feel relaxed, calm and energised after a session, and hopefully, any “problem” areas of discomfort or pain should feel an improvement.
Shiatsu can help with a multitude of symptoms, including back pain, joint pain, headaches, poor
digestion, menstrual disorders, and poor sleep. It helps boost the immune system and overall energy and addresses more emotional issues such as low mood or anxiety. It is truly holistic in that by working with one symptom or area of the body; you may initiate other healing responses and releases elsewhere. You don’t have to have a physical symptom to benefit from treatment: it is a deeply relaxing and nurturing experience that leaves clients with an overall sense of well-being and balance.
Regular treatments can help with general flexibility and mobility, posture, and circulation and reduce overall stress to the system.
